Genus. in 1903 in Moscow. He studied in Moscow in private studios and the State Free Art Workshops - Vkhutein (1918-27) with I. I. Mashkov, A. V. Shevchenko and V. A. Favorsky. One of the founders of OST (1925). In 1943–45 he worked in the magazine “Front-line Humor”. He taught at the Moscow Printing Institute (1930–34 and since 1948, professor since 1958). He also worked as an easel painter (mainly portraits), a monumentalist, and a theater artist.
