After passportization began, he was declared deprived. I received permission to live 101 kilometers away. Lived in Staraya Russa. I wrote a letter to Kalinin asking for permission to live in Leningrad and received a positive response. He died on January 18, 1941, having not recovered after surgery to remove a hernia. He was buried in the Jewish cemetery of Leningrad.
