Genus. in 1871 in the village of Pereslavtsevo, Uglich district, Yaroslavl province, in a large family of a priest. He graduated from the Yaroslavl Theological Seminary (1892), the Moscow Theological Academy (1896). He was tonsured a monk and ordained a hieromonk. Since 1898 - inspector of the Kutaisi Theological Seminary. In 1901 he was transferred to the Tiflis Theological Seminary. Since 1908 - teacher at the Vyatka Theological Seminary. Since 1909 - teacher at the Vologda Theological Seminary. Since 1911 - teacher at the Yaroslavl Theological Seminary. From 1916 he taught at the Yaroslavl railway school. Since 1919 - member of the Yaroslavl Diocesan Council. From October 9, 1921 - Bishop of Tutaevsky, vicar of the Yaroslavl diocese. In 1922 he was arrested and sentenced to 7 years in prison. Released in 1926. Among believers and his many admirers, he was considered a great man of prayer, an elder, an ascetic, and was known as a seer. On June 12, 1927 he was arrested again. He was sentenced to three years of exile in Kazakhstan, which he served in the Ural region. On April 1, 1930, he was arrested on charges of “anti-Soviet” correspondence with his parishioners. He did not plead guilty; he was seriously ill. On September 10, 1931, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but the sentence was not carried out, since the bishop died in the prison hospital. Canonized as holy new martyrs and confessors of Russia by the Jubilee Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church in August 2000.
