Kalninsh Friedrich Janovich

Definition: Soviet military leader, head of the Latvian Rifle Division in the period 10/20/1919 - 07/04/1920, brigade commander of the Red Army.

Genus. in a peasant family in the Žule manor in Latvia. He graduated from the school of ensigns in 1915. Participated in the First World War with the rank of staff captain (1917), was taken prisoner by the Germans. In early 1919 he returned from captivity to Latvia. During the Civil War, he commanded the 8th Latvian Rifle Regiment, the 1st brigade of the Latvian Rifle Division, then the commander of the Latvian Rifle Division. Commander of the Perekop Group of Forces of the 13th Army, head of the 42nd Infantry Division. In 1937 he worked as a teacher of tactics at the MV Frunze Military Academy.

Arrested 02/08/1938. On August 25, 1938, he was sentenced by the All-Union Military Commission of the USSR on charges of "participation in a military-fascist terrorist organization." Shot on 08/25/1938 in the building of the VKVS. Cremated in the Donskoy Monastery. Rehabilitated 08/04/1956.
