Party member since 1921, in 1921–1924 head of the economic sector of the Leningrad provincial committee of the RLKSM, secretary of the Vyborg district committee of the Komsomol, head of the organizational department of the provincial committee of the Komsomol. In 1924–1926 member of the Executive Committee of the Communist Youth International (KIM), member of the Bureau of the Central Committee of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League, in 1925 and 1926, as a representative of the KIM, he was sent to Germany and Austria. In 1926–1928 Deputy Head of the Organizational Department of the Siberian Regional Council of Trade Unions. He took part in the so-called "new opposition". 12/18/1927 XV Congress of the CPSU (b) expelled from the party for participation in the Trotskyist-Zinoviev opposition, in 1929 reinstated in the party. Since 1929 he has been a student at the Leningrad Industrial Institute. 12/05/1934 arrested, 12/28–29/1934 sentenced to VMN by the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR. Rehabilitated on 11/30/1990, in the party order - the Central Control Commission of the Communist Party of the RSFSR on 03/27/1991.
