Born in Kharkov in 1919 in the family of a lawyer, former gendarmerie (according to other sources, cavalry) captain Valentin Mikhailovich Kulchitsky. The first poem was published in 1935 in the Pioneer magazine. Studied at school No. 1 for eight years. After graduating from ten-year school No. 30, he worked as a carpenter and draftsman at the Kharkov Tractor Plant. Having entered Kharkov University, a year later he transferred to the second year of the Literary Institute. Gorky (seminar by Ilya Selvinsky). While studying, he gave lessons at one of the Moscow schools. In 1941, Kulchitsky joined the destruction battalion. In mid-December 1942, he graduated from the machine gun and mortar school and received the rank of junior lieutenant. On January 19, 1943, the commander of a mortar platoon, junior lieutenant Mikhail Kulchitsky, died near the village of Trembachevo, Lugansk region, during the offensive from Stalingrad to the Kharkov region (Southwestern Front, 6th Army, 350 SD 1178 SP). He was reburied in a mass grave in the village of Pavlenkovo. The poet's name is embossed in gold on the 10th banner in the Pantheon of Glory of Volgograd.
