Genus. in 1896. In 1931, he was arrested “for anti-Soviet activities” and sentenced to 10 years in the camps. In the camp he developed a serious lung disease, due to which he was released early, in 1939. Since 1945 he was rector of the Astrakhan Cathedral. From September 1948 to January 1953 he was rector of the cathedral in Samarkand. Since 1953 - Bishop of Tashkent and Central Asia. Since 1963 - Archbishop of Kaluga and Borovsk.
He is known for his open disagreement with the decision of the Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church of July 18, 1961 to amend the Regulations on the management of the Russian Orthodox Church in part of Section IV - “On parishes.” As a result, on November 25, 1965, he was retired to the Zhirovitsky Monastery with the right to serve there.
