American journalist and political scientist. In 1976-1982 lived in the USSR and worked as a correspondent for the American Chicago Tribune and the London Financial Times, and later as a correspondent for The Wall Street Journal in the post-Soviet region. Teaches modern Russian history at Johns Hopkins University, USA.
