Semashkevich Roman Matveevich
Artist, member of the group "13" (1920s)
Born in 1900 in Lebedev, Vilnius Governorate, Poland; Polish; no name; higher education - studied painting and drawing at the Bronislav Tarashkevich School in Vilnius, at the Vitebsk Art School in the sculpture department, graduated from the Higher Art and Technical Institute in Moscow. Lived in Moscow, Vspolny Lane, Bldg. 17, Apt. 9-10. Worked at home under contracts. Arrested on November 1, 1937. Sentenced on December 20, 1937 by a troika of the NKVD Directorate for Moscow Region on charges of counterrevolutionary fascist agitation to capital punishment . Executed on December 22, 1937. Place of burial - Moscow Region, Butovo. Rehabilitated on June 2, 1958.
On May 24, 2015, a personal memorial sign was installed on house No. 17 on Vspolny Lane in Moscow in memory of R.M. Semashkevich as part of the "Last Address" project.
