By assignment, he worked as a doctor in the Pskov region, then as a doctor at the Leningrad Research Institute of Children's Infections (1972–79), as an assistant at the Department of Children's Infections at the LPMI.
Since 1986 - Associate Professor at the State Institute for Advanced Medical Studies (GIDUV).
In 1990, he became deputy chief physician of the City Diagnostic Children's Center.
He was elected as a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg (1994–98), chairman of the standing commission on health care.
In 1998, he was elected as a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the second convocation. Yalen of the Yuri Boldyrev Bloc faction. Chairman of the Standing Committee on Healthcare.
Candidate of Medical Sciences (1978). Author of 40 scientific papers and two monographic reviews.
In April 1998, he was attacked by unknown persons and received a number of traumatic brain and other injuries.
He is interested in literature, music, and sports.
