Genus. in Yaroslavl, was brought up in an orphanage. From the age of 15 he worked at the Yaroslavl Tire Plant as a mechanic repairing equipment, and from 1955. - driver. In August 1955 he was called up to serve in the navy. Expelled from the Komsomol in 1958. After 3 years of service, for unauthorized absence from the unit for 3 days, he was sentenced by the Baltic Fleet tribunal to transfer to a disciplinary battalion in Paldiski, Estonian SSR.
