Genus. 05/12/1956 in Leningrad. In 1979 he graduated from the Faculty of History of Leningrad State University. In 1978–1982, together with D. Panchenko and P. Diatroptov, he participated in the publication of the Metrodor magazine, for which he wrote a number of articles. In 1980–1981 was a member of the editorial board of the magazine “37”, participated in the release of the last, 20th and 21st issues. He published in the magazine the article “Socrates and Boris” (under the pseudonym Boris Konin) and translations of several essays by J. Orwell. He published a letter protesting against the war in Afghanistan in the foreign press. Together with V. Krivulin, he made a statement on the creation of an independent writers’ union “Free Cultural Workshop” (published in the Parisian magazine “Echo” (1980. No. 3). The project was not implemented). In connection with his activities, he was called for “conversations” with the KGB. Currently, he is a senior lecturer at the Department of Classical Philology at St. Petersburg University. Author of a number of scientific articles on antiquity.
