In 1980 I submitted an application with my husband to leave the USSR, but the documents were not accepted. We sent an application to renounce Soviet citizenship and passport to the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. The documents were returned to the Dnepropetrovsk OVIR, where they explained that it was impossible to leave due to the lack of an Israeli call. In July 1980 The husband was summoned to the military registration and enlistment office, placed in a mental hospital, where he stayed until the end of the Moscow Olympics (beginning of August 1980), and was discharged with a diagnosis of “mentally healthy.” She was fired from her job in September 1980 for immoral behavior. In November 1980 I went out with my husband and child to Red Square with a poster “We want to leave the USSR - why the KGB?” They were detained and sent to Dnepropetrovsk.
