In 1929 - head of the Gubono (head of Krayono) and authorized representative of the People's Commissariat of Education for the organization of the Nizhny Novgorod Territory, chairman of the regional commission on dispossession, chairman of the regional branch of the All-Union Society of Militant Dialectic Marxists, chairman of the organizing bureau of the Union of Soviet Writers, member of the regional editorial and publishing board of OGIZ, editor of the bulletin of the Krai Executive Committee, from 1931 to 1933 - editor-in-chief of the regional party newspaper "Gorkovskaya Kommuna". Member of the Gorky Regional Committee and member of the regional committee bureau, member of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of the RSFSR. In 1933 - director of the Gorky Mechanical Engineering Institute, since 1935 - director of the Leningrad Industrial Institute. Since 1936 he worked in the Leningrad Regional Department of Public Education, in 1937 - deputy. Chairman of the Leningrad Regional Executive Committee, deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from the Leningrad Region, member of the Plenum of the Vyborg Regional Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) and the Leningrad Regional Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks). From 1937 - People's Commissar of Education of the RSFSR. During the Siege of Leningrad - member of the Military Council of the 67th Army, head of the Political Directorate of the Leningrad Front. After the war - deputy chairman of the Leningrad City Executive Committee, director of the Institute of Party History. In connection with the "Leningrad Affair" he was expelled from the party. Arrested on November 19, 1949, charged under Articles 58-10, 58-11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR. Died in the hospital of Butyrka prison on May 2, 1950. The case was closed on June 25, 1954 due to lack of corpus delicti.
