Genus. in 1900 in Kaluga, in the family of a timber merchant. In 1917 he graduated from the private secondary school F.M. Shakhmagov, entered the Moscow Mining Academy. He studied intermittently and worked as a geologist. In 1925 he transferred to Leningrad University, which he graduated in 1930. He lived in Leningrad. In 1935 - head of the Kolyma polar geological expedition. Arrested 06/05/1936 in Moscow. Sentenced by the OSO under the NKVD of the USSR to 5 years in labor camp. He served time in Kolyma. Being a prisoner of Sevvostlag, he was arrested on April 28, 1938. Sentenced by the NKVD troika for Dalstroy to VMN, he was on death row for 60 days.
