In April 1953 on instructions from the leadership of the NTS, as part of a group, he was illegally sent to the USSR - members of the group were dropped by parachute from an American plane in the Maykop area. Four were arrested as agents of foreign intelligence. Novikov, Yakuta and Kudryavtsev confessed.
