Genus. in 1858 in the family of a court councilor. Education: Moscow 2nd Cadet Corps (1874), Mikhailovsky Artillery School (1877), Mikhailovsky Artillery Academy (1888). Since 1877 he took part in the Russian-Turkish War. From 1881 he was a tutor at the Pavlovsk Military School, in 1882 he was a tutor at the Mikhailovsky Artillery Academy and the Mikhailovsky Artillery School, and from 1888 he was a full-time teacher. From 1896 - extraordinary professor of the Mikhailovsky Artillery Academy, from 1900 - ordinary professor, from 1908 - honored ordinary professor and honorary member of the Conference of the Mikhailovsky Artillery Academy. In 1914, he was promoted to lieutenant general with an appointment as a permanent member of the Artillery Committee at the Main Artillery Directorate, and from 1915 - head of the 4th department of the AK GAU. After the revolution, on January 24, 1918, he was enrolled as a non-staff professor at the Mikhailovsky Artillery Academy. Arrested [after 07/11/1918] by the Extraordinary Commission of the Petrograd Soviet of Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies to combat counter-revolution and speculation in the case of a conspiracy at the Mikhailovsky Artillery School.
