Born in 1860 in the settlement of Novaya Yorga, Cherepovets district, Novgorod province; graduated from the Novgorod Theological Seminary and the St. Petersburg Theological Academy in 1885, candidate of theology. Priest of the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "Assuage My Sorrows" at the Prince Peter Georgievich Oldenburgsky Orphanage in St. Petersburg, teacher of religious studies at the orphanage. From 1892 to 1912 - rector of the Church of St. Andrew of Crete at the Expedition for the Preparation of State Papers. From 1893 to 1917 - member of the St. Petersburg City Duma from the clergy. From 1898 - archpriest. Editor and censor of a number of capital spiritual journals. In 1913 he was appointed rector of the Kazan Cathedral. Arrested by the Petrograd Cheka on 09.08.1918 together with his two sons, Nikolai and Boris. All three were shot, presumably, in October 1918.
