Krestinskaya Varvara Nikolaevna
Chemist
Born in 1885 in Mogilev; graduated from the 1st Women's Gymnasium in Vilnius in 1903. In 1904 she entered the Physics and Mathematics Department of the Higher Courses for Women, and upon graduation she remained with the courses to conduct research. In 1911 she was accepted as an assistant in the Chemistry Department of the St. Petersburg Women's Pedagogical Institute (now the Herzen Institute). In 1937 she received a Doctor of Chemical Sciences degree without defending. In May 1938 she was administratively exiled to Kirghizia. Returned to Leningrad in October 1953. Rehabilitated on 23.11.1956. Died on 04.03.1971.
