Genus. in 1907 in St. Petersburg. Arrested 07/27/1926 in Leningrad. Sentenced on September 18, 1926 by the OSO of the NKVD to 3 years of exile in Saratov for belonging to the "anarcho-underground". Released after 11 months. She worked as an editor in the editorial office of children's literature of the State Publishing House under the direction of S.Ya. Marshak. Dismissed in 1937 after the destruction of the editorial office of the Leningrad Detizdat. After the arrest of her husband M.P. Bronstein (08/06/1937, shot 02/18/1938) went to Ukraine and escaped arrest. In the 1960s spoke in support of I.A. Brodsky, A.I. Solzhenitsyn, A.D. Sinyavsky and Yu.M. Daniel et al. 01/09/1974 expelled from the Writers' Union (the decision was canceled in February 1989), a complete ban was imposed on publications in the USSR until 1987. Laureate of awards: "Freedom Prize" (French Academy, 1980), award to them. academician A. D. Sakharov "For the Civil Courage of a Writer" (Association of Writers "April", 1990, State Prize of the Russian Federation (1994). Died in Moscow in 1996.
