Romankov Leonid Petrovich

Definition: Russian politician, human rights activist. Deputy of the Leningrad City Council (1990-1993). Member of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg (1994-2002), Chairman of the Commission on Education, Science and Culture.

Genus. in 1937 in Leningrad. Graduated from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (1961). In 1961-1982 - engineer, senior researcher at the All-Russian Research Institute of Television.
In 1982, KGB officers conducted a search in Romankov’s apartment, during which more than 50 banned books were found; Romankov was fired and deprived of security clearance. Since 1982 - senior researcher at the Institute of Analytical Instrumentation of the Academy of Sciences. Candidate of Technical Sciences (1972). Author of more than 30 scientific publications, 4 inventions. Published in samizdat magazines “Clocks”, “Time and We”, “Chronograph”, etc. Published a collection of poetry and prose “Fragments”. He was friends with writers Lydia Chukovskaya and Leonid Panteleev, dancer Rudolf Nureyev, and poet Joseph Brodsky.
