Sverstyuk Evgeny Alexandrovich
Ukrainian writer, Soviet-era dissident, editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Our Vera”, president of the Ukrainian PEN Club.
Genus. in 1928 in the village. Seltso, Volyn Voivodeship, Poland, now Gorokhovsky district of Volyn region; Ukrainian; higher education, graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Lvov University in 1952; worked as a fireman, writer, rep. Secretary of the Editorial Board of the Botanical Journal of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. Lived in Kyiv. Arrested on January 14, 1972 for the production and distribution of “samizdat” documents. Sentenced by the Kyiv Regional Court on April 24, 1973 under Article 62 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR to 7 years in a penal colony and 5 years in exile. He served his term in the Perm camps - 389/36, exile - in the Buryat Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. Died on December 1, 2014 in Kyiv.
