Genus. 01/18/1934 in Leningrad. Graduated from the Pedagogical Institute. A. Herzen, lit. fact. From 1955 to 1966 - Teacher of literature and history in high school.
Since 1966 - a professional writer (the main theme is populism and the people's will), a member of the group of writers at the Leningrad branch of the SSP. In 1974, he was arrested and convicted under Article 70 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR (“anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda”) for 4 years in labor camp and 2 years in exile for writing a preface to the samizdat collected works of I. Brodsky (the so-called “Maramzin collection”), as well as for making in 1969 and “storage for the purpose of distribution” 2 copies of A. Amalrik’s essay “Prosistiv does the Soviet Union last until 1984?” and acquaintance in 1971-1974. with this essay by 3 people, storage and note-taking of Fensond's book "Smolensk under Soviet power". During the years of imprisonment, he wrote, forwarded from Dubravlag (Mordovian ASSR) and published in Paris three books of journalism, non-fiction and interviews (“Place and Time”, “Russian Field”, “Journey from Dubrovlag to Yermak”). After his release from exile in 1980, he emigrated to Israel. In 1982-1990. scientific member of the Center for the Study and Documentation of Eastern European Jewry at the University of Jerusalem. At the same time, he wrote and published seven books (“Looking from Jerusalem”, “Regicide in 1918”, “A Sad Roll of Memories”, etc.). In 1990-1998 - employee of the Israeli newspaper "Vesti". He died on November 25, 2019 in Jerusalem.
