In 1916 he was drafted into the army. During the civil war he fought on the Turkestan front. in 1921 he was appointed head of the Transcaucasian Cheka. In 1922 - People's Commissar of the Karelian Republic. In 1930 - deputy head of the Leningrad OGPU. In 1936 he worked as the head of the NKVD in Kalinin. He was a delegate at the XVII Congress of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks). Suddenly summoned to Moscow on a POV case. Arrested 09/05/1937. Shot. Rehabilitated 06/02/1956.
