Genus. in 1892 in Grodno. In 1916 he graduated from Petrograd University. Participated in expeditions to the Pamirs and high-latitude expeditions to various regions of the Arctic. He took part in the development of the scientific program of the North Pole-1 expedition, led by I. D. Papanin. He was arrested by the NKVD during the so-called Pulkovo case, but was released in 1937 and returned to work. In 1937-1938 he took part in expeditions on the icebreakers “Sadko”, “Sedov”, “Malygin”, which drifted in the ice of the Arctic basin. At the same time, from 1920 he worked at the Astronomical Institute (since 1943 - Institute of Theoretical Astronomy of the USSR Academy of Sciences), where he served as deputy director and headed the department of special ephemeris.
