In 1905-1919. - Professor of Russian History at Yuryev University. He taught the same subject at the higher women's courses in Yuryev; stood at the head of the historical department of Yuriev pedagogical courses. In 1911 he defended his doctoral dissertation at Moscow University. In the summer of 1918, together with the university, he was evacuated to Voronezh, where he participated in the creation of Voronezh State University.
