Born in 1933 in Leningrad. By decision of the NKVD Commission for the Leningrad Region on 28.06.1937, he was exiled with his mother after his father's arrest, from Leningrad to the Arkhangelsk Region. They were released in 1940. His mother was rehabilitated by a resolution of the Leningrad Regional City Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate on 12.10.1957; his son was recognized as a victim of political repression in 1995. In 1958, he graduated from the 1st Medical Institute in Leningrad and was sent to work in the Komi ASSR.
