In 1934, researcher at the Leningrad branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences, specialist in ancient Chinese philosophy; from 1941 he worked in the People's Commissariat of Foreign Affairs of the USSR; in 1942–1943 in China; in 1945–1948, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USSR to China; in 1948–1949, expert consultant at the Archive Directorate of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He died suddenly on January 11, 1949 in Moscow. He was buried at the Vagankovskoye cemetery.
