Born in 1892 in the village of Zazdrist, Strusovsky district, Ternopil region; Ukrainian. Metropolitan of Galicia, head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic ("Uniate") Church. Lived in the Maklakovsky Home for the Disabled, Krasnoyarsk Territory. Arrested on 19.06.1958. Sentenced on 17.04.1959 by the Supreme Court of the Ukrainian SSR under Art. 7, part 1 of the Law of 25.12.1958 (arrested for writing (initially - by order of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs) a 5-volume "History of the Ecumenical Church in Ukraine"). Sentenced to 7 years in a labor camp. Pardoned at the request of the Vatican (Resolution of the Presidium of the Supreme Court of the USSR of 12.01.1963). Released on 26.01.1963, in early February he left for Rome.
