Born in 1950 at one of the construction sites of the Astrakhan-Saratov oil pipeline in a family of trunk pipeline builders. In 1967, he entered the 1st year of the Faculty of Philology of Petrozavodsk University, specializing in Finno-Ugric languages. In February 1968, during the holidays, in Ryazan I met law student Oleg Senin. From whom I received the article “The Decline of Capital” - a policy document of the Ryazan underground student group, written by a part-time student at the Ryazan Radio Engineering Institute (RRTI) Yuri Woodka under the pseudonym L. Borin. Senin was the only member of the group known to the Teacher. Senin convinced the Teacher to create an organization in Petrozavodsk. It didn’t come to that; the Teacher only gave Petrozavodsk acquaintances “The Decline of Capital” to read. After the arrest of Oleg Senin in Ryazan on August 8, 1969, Uchitel was summoned to the KGB for questioning about his contacts with Senin. He did not give evidence about the Decline of Capital and was released. 19-year-old Alexander Uchitel was arrested by KGB officers at Petrozavodsk University in September 1969. The investigation lasted from September 18 to December 1969. Convicted on December 31, 1969 under Art. 70 and 72 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR for 4 years of labor camp. After the trial, he was sent as a witness to the trial of the Saratov student group (Romanov, Kirikov, Fokeev, Bobrov, etc.). He was kept in political camps in Mordovia: in the 17th zone, 3rd zone, 19th zone. Released in September 1973 under public police supervision in Ryazan. In October 1974, he emigrated to Israel and entered the 1st year of the University of Jerusalem. From 1985 to 2005 he taught at the University of Jerusalem and Haifa. Writer, publicist.
