Received the pseudonym "Etienne". Returned to Moscow in August 1976. He worked in the central apparatus of the GRU, transmitting intelligence materials to the CIA through hiding places and through letters. As a result of surveillance of F. by KGB officers on September 2, 1977. CIA agents V. Crocket and his wife Becky were caught red-handed. F. was arrested on July 14, 1978. sentenced by the All-Russian Military Commission of the USSR under Article 64 and Article 78 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR (treason and smuggling) to VMN. After submitting a petition for pardon, the imprisonment was replaced by 15 years of penitentiary imprisonment. He served his term in camp 389/35 (Perm-35). After his release, he contacted the US Embassy in Russia with a request to compensate him for material damage, but was refused.
