Shmelev Boris Vasilievich

Born in 1932 in Leningrad. After the arrest of his father, on 26.04.1938 he was administratively exiled from Leningrad with his mother and older brother to the Voronezh Region. He graduated from school in 1949 in Borisoglebsk. In 1955 he graduated from the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute and was sent to TsKB-17 (now the Nevskoye Design Bureau). For the first two years he worked at the Severodvinsk branch of PKB-17, and in 1957 he was recalled to his main place of work in Leningrad. From the hull department he was transferred to the design department, where he became the head of a sector, then deputy head of a department. In the early 1960s, he was appointed deputy chief designer of the project for a surface carrier of ballistic missiles, then in the second half of the 1960s - deputy chief designer of the project for the design, construction and testing of the command and measurement complex "Cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov", created to ensure the implementation of the lunar space flight program. During his work at the Nevskoye Design Bureau, he held the position of deputy chief designer of aircraft carrier projects, and from February 1989 - chief designer. Laureate of the USSR State Prize in 1977. Rehabilitated by the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region on 06.05.2003.
