Genus. in 1878 in Kyiv. After graduating from the Faculty of Law at Kyiv University, he became one of the leading journalists for the Kievlyanin newspaper. Deputy of the II, III and IV State Duma. With the outbreak of World War I, he volunteered to go to the front. After the February Revolution, he refused to join the Provisional Government as Minister of Justice. Accepted the abdication of Emperor Nicholas II in March 1917. An active participant in the anti-Bolshevik movement during the Civil War. Since 1920 in exile in Bulgaria, Germany, France. Since 1924 he lived in Yugoslavia. In 1925, in search of his son, he illegally visited the USSR. In December 1944, he was detained by SMERSH in Yugoslavia, taken through Hungary to Moscow, where on January 31, 1945, his arrest was formalized as “an active member of the White Guard organization “Russian All-Military Union”, and after an investigation into his case, which lasted more than two years, he was sentenced under articles 58-4, 58-6 part 1, 58-8 and 58-11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR, by resolution of a special meeting at the MGB on July 12, 1947, to 25 years in prison for “anti-Soviet activities.” Released in 1956
