In 1938 he lived in Leningrad, worked as a cartographer in the Hydrographic Administration of Polar Aviation of the Main Northern Sea Route. Arrested on April 29, 1938, on charges that he “was a member of the counter-revolutionary fascist organization “ROND” and was engaged in counter-revolutionary sabotage and espionage work”; the case was closed by the NKVD on 04/26/1939; released from custody on May 28, 1939.
