Genus. in 1946. In 1975 he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. He was engaged in teaching activities. He made his debut as a poet-translator, participating in the publication of the Library of World Literature in 200 volumes.
Since 1967, he has been a parishioner of the Church of the Intercession, where priest Alexander Men served. In the parish, already in Novaya Derevnya, where Father Alexander Men served, from the mid-70s, he was engaged in the religious education of children. He was fired from his job several times for his religious beliefs and went through searches and interrogations.
After the collapse of the USSR, he was actively involved in book publishing, combining it with journalistic work in both foreign and domestic periodicals. In 1992, he defended his Ph.D. thesis at the Pushkin House (IRLI RAS) in St. Petersburg. In 2002, he defended his doctoral dissertation at the Russian Academy of Public Administration.
