Genus. 23.10 (old style).1881 in the village. Krapivna, Konotop district. Chernigov province; Russian; from the nobles; higher education; member of the CPSU (b) in 1928–1934. Graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Moscow State University (1906) and the Moscow Agricultural Institute (1909). A member of the student executive committee of the RSDLP, in 1902 he was arrested for organizing a demonstration and sentenced to 6 months. prison and deportation from Moscow (according to other sources, to 3 years of exile in Western Siberia, replaced by 6 years of service in Kursk). In 1910–1913 he worked as a weather forecaster in Makhachkala. In World War I, he was the head of the meteorological service of the 8th Army, then of the Southwestern Front with the rank of colonel. Since 1917 he lived in the city of Dmitriev, Kursk region, art. agronomist and inspector of public education. Since 1920 in Moscow, Art. Researcher in the Department of Long-Term Forecasts, Chief Phys. observatory. In 1924–1929 he worked in Glavnauka, from 1927 onwards. editors of geophysics TSB. In 1920–1931 deputy. Chairman of the Central Bureau of Local History, Ch. editor of Izvestia TsBK. Since 1928 prof. Department of Physics, Moscow State University. In 1929–1934 member of the Presidium of the State. academic council. In 1929, the founder and head of the Unified Hydrometeorological Service of the USSR, organizer of the USSR Weather Bureau, chairman of the Hydrometeorological Committee under the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR. Arrested in Moscow on January 8, 1934, accused of “c/r activities” and “espionage.” Sentenced by a resolution of the Kogpu dated March 27, 1934 under Art. 58-6, 7, 11 to 10 years of ITL. While imprisoned in Solovki, he worked in the museum and library (head of the foreign department). In January 1937 he was dismissed from the library and transferred to prison regime. By a resolution of the Special Troika of the UNKVD LO dated 09.10.1937, he was sentenced to VMN (for “belonging to the bourgeois-nationalist organization “All-Ukrainian Central Bloc””). Shot on November 3, 1937 in the Sandormokh tract (Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic). Rehabilitated on June 23, 1956 by the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR. Name A.F. Wangenheim wears state. Museum of Local Lore in Dmitriev-Lgovsky, Kursk region.
