Genus. in 1881 in St. Petersburg. In 1899 he graduated from the boarding house of I. I. Fasnacht, studied photography and worked in Steglitz, Germany. In 1909 he returned to St. Petersburg, as a cameraman on the set of feature films. In 1913 he graduated from the Pedagogical Courses at the Imperial Academy of Arts. Since 1914 in the active army. In 1916, he was appointed to the position of photographer in the Office of the Chief Quartermaster of the Guards Detachment Headquarters. In 1917 he took photographs and newsreels of revolutionary events in Petrograd, and in 1918–1920 he was a photo reporter and cameraman on the fronts of the Civil War. In 1918–1928 he was a photographer in the technical department of the Petrograd Provincial Executive Committee.
And it was restrained on December 28, 1928. Sentenced on June 28, 1929 to 5 years in prison. Imprisoned in Solovki, then transferred to Belbaltlag, where he worked as a photographer on the construction of the White Sea-Baltic Canal. Later he was transferred to the construction of the Moscow-Volga canal, where he worked as a photographer from the photo service of Moscow Volgostroy (Dmitrovlag). In 1934, after his liberation, he moved to Moscow and was no longer involved in photography. He died in 1943 in Moscow. Rehabilitated on June 24, 2002.
