In the 1950s, he became interested in the problem of the Tunguska meteorite. He conducted field research in the Tunguska disaster area three times (1953, 1958 and 1961).
In 1961, he was the head of the Tunguska meteorite expedition of the Committee on Meteorites of the USSR Academy of Sciences (KMET).
