Genus. in 1899 in Kars (now the territory of Turkey). He studied at a parochial school, then at a city higher elementary school. He worked in the Kars consumer society “Vanand”, in the city government of Alexandropol (now Leninakan). In 1921 he was sent to work in the Alexandropol Extraordinary Commission (Cheka). He worked in the bodies of the Cheka–GPU–NKVD of Transcaucasia. In 1937 he was arrested and deported to Solovki. Of the 10 years of imprisonment, 6 years spent in solitary confinement. Rehabilitated in 1955. He was the main witness in the case of Rukhadze and other Beria members at the trial in Tbilisi in 1955. Since 1957, he lived in Moscow, at the same time his memoirs “This Must Not Happen” began to be distributed in samizdat, which were partially published for the first time in the magazine "Star", 1989, N 1.
