But soon he entered service in the Black Sea Fleet, in 1921 - commander of the hydrographic vessel "Metel" on a polar expedition. For many years he participated in expeditions, including wintering ones, as a commander of several expedition ships, and with his work laid the foundation for the study of ice passability for ships of various types.
