December 15, 1950 in the Lithuanian SSR, Vilnius; Russian; education grade 8; Radio assembler at the plant of radio components. 08/25/1968 scattered around the city 10 leaflets protesting against the invasion of Czechoslovakia. Arrested on 04.11.1968. Sentenced by the Supreme Court of the Lithuanian SSR on 25.06.1969 under Art. 68 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Lithuanian SSR (= Art. 70 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR) to 2 years in prison. He served his term in Dubravlag (1968–1970, ZhKh-385). After his release, he returned to Vilnius, in 1974. entered the full-time department of the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University, from where he was transferred to the correspondence department. Since 1978 sought to leave the USSR to reunite with his fiancée I. Vaychaitis, a citizen of Canada, in 1979. organized a press conference for foreign journalists; subjected to persecution: interrogation in the case of A. Terleckas and J. Sasnauskas (1980); in 1980 fled to Finland, extradited to the USSR. Convicted on May 15, 1981. The Supreme Court of the Lithuanian SSR under Article 62 of the Criminal Code of the Lithuanian SSR under Article 64 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR for 12 years of strict regime and 3 years of exile.
