Genus. in 1895 in Tsarskoe Selo. Higher education. Since 1918 - researcher at the Tsarskoye Selo Art and Historical Commission; in 1919–1921 — worked in the Department for the Protection of Monuments of Art and Antiquities; in 1921–1924 - Researcher at the Russian Museum. Since 1923, he headed the art department of the Petrograd branch of the State Publishing House, one of the organizers of the Society of Bibliophiles and its chairman. Researcher at the Leningrad Institute of Book Studies and the Institute of Book Studies of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, member of the Russian Society of Friends of Books. Arrested in 1933 ("The Case of Ivanov-Razumnik"), after a short imprisonment he was acquitted. During the blockade he lived in Leningrad; in March 1942 he was evacuated across Lake Ladoga. He died of starvation on the way to evacuation. He was buried in the Vologda region.
