Genus. in 1932 in Rostov-on-Don. In 1955 Graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Leningrad State University. In the 1960s moved to Moscow, taught Italian at the history department of Moscow State University, and worked as a translator for various Italian delegations. On December 15, 1964, he submitted an application to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR to renounce Soviet citizenship and intend to emigrate from the Soviet Union. In 1968, he signed appeals in defense of Alexander Ginzburg and Yuri Galanskov, protested against the conviction of the participants in the “Demonstration of the Seven” on Red Square, and published “Appeals from Yu.V.” in a number of foreign newspapers.
