From 1950 he lived in Paris, from 1953 he studied at the Ecole Normale SupОrieure (philology). He went to Moscow for a year on a scholarship, where he studied the Russian language and the Soviet way of thinking. In Moscow he met B. Pasternak and A. Sinyavsky. Upon returning to Paris, he translated Doctor Zhivago in collaboration with three colleagues. In military service in Algeria. In 1962, he tried to publish a novel about Russia. From 1964 to 1996 he taught Russian literature at the University of Aix-en-Provence. He published several articles in the magazine "Syntax", published two novels in 2000 and 2002.
