Definition: Polish communist politician and statesman, general of division, one of the leaders of the PUWP. Member of the communist underground 1937-1939 and partisan movement 1942-1944. After 1945 - the head of the operational groups of the MOB, a member of the violent suppression of the opposition. In 1948-1956 he was the head of the administration of several voivodships of Poland. In 1956-1964 - Deputy Minister, from 1964 to 1968 - Minister of the Interior of Poland. In 1968-1971 - Secretary of the PUWP Central Committee, in 1970-1971 and 1980-1981 - member of the Politburo of the PUWP Central Committee, party curator of punitive organs. Orthodox Stalinist, leader of the nationalist and anti-Semitic wing of the PZPR.
