Popov Blagoy Semenovich
Definition: Member of the Comintern, leader of the Bulgarian and international communist movement, participant in the Leipzig Trial (1933).

Genus. in 1902 in the village. Drain of the Radomir community. In 1919 he joined the Communist Youth League of Bulgaria, and in 1922 - the Bulgarian Communist Party. In 1923 he served as head of the district and deputy head of the city (Sofia) underground Komsomol organization.Participant of the September uprising of 1923 against the government of A. Tsankov. After the defeat of the uprising, he was a member of the Vidin district party and Komsomol committees. In 1924 he participated in the preparation and holding of the 1st conference of the Bulgarian Komsomol, which was held illegally. Sentenced in absentia by the Bulgarian authorities to 15 years in prison. In 1924 he emigrated by decision of the Central Committee of the BKP. In 1929 he graduated from the Academy of Communist Education named after. N.K. Krupskaya in Moscow, after which he returned illegally to Bulgaria. From October 1929 - member of the Central Committee, from November - political secretary of the Komsomol Central Committee, member of the Central Committee of the BCP. Since December 1930 - candidate member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the BCP. Since 1931 - member of the Executive Committee and Presidium of the Executive Committee of the Communist Youth International. From September 1931 - again underground in Bulgaria, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the BCP, led the parliamentary faction of the legal Workers' Party and the work of the Central Committee of the Komsomol. In October 1931 he was arrested, but escaped; sentenced in absentia to 12.5 years in prison. From January 1932 he was again in exile. In November 1932 he was sent by the Executive Committee of the Comintern to Berlin.
In February 1933, he was arrested by German police on charges of setting fire to the Reichstag. As a result of the Leitsip trial (September - December 1933), he was acquitted along with G. Dimitrov and V. Tanev, but continued to be held in prison. After the USSR granted Soviet citizenship to three Bulgarians, they were deported to Moscow in February 1934. Arrested in 1937, he was imprisoned for about 17 years. In 1954 he was released and returned to Bulgaria. Since 1954, he held senior positions in the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Belarus. Personal pensioner since 1964.
