Richter Georgy Emilievich
Born in 1906 in the town of Onega, Arkhangelsk region; from a family of employees; higher education. In 1938 he lived in Moscow. Worked in a Psychiatric Hospital as a senior research fellow. Arrested on 29.09.1938 (according to other sources - 28.01.1938). Sentenced by the Special Specialized Department of the NKVD of the USSR on 02.08.1938 under Art. 58-10, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 5 years in a correctional labor camp. On 16.11.1941 he escaped from prison, using documents in the name of Smirnov M.V., born in 1901, native of the village of Mokro, Kurlovsky District, Ivanovo Province. In March 1942, under the name Smirnov, he joined the Red Army, in which he served until his arrest. He was arrested for the second time on September 17, 1949 as the head of a hospital in Potsdam and held the military rank of "lieutenant colonel of the medical service". He was sentenced by military unit 48240 on August 11, 1950 under Article 49 of the Criminal Code for multiple crimes to 5 years' imprisonment, without loss of rights, and with deprivation of his military rank. He was released on May 27, 1953 from the Volga Corrective Labor Camp (Saratov Region) under an amnesty with the conviction expunged. He was rehabilitated in the 1938 case by the Military Tribunal of the Carpathian Military District on April 10, 1957; in the 1949 case - by the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR on January 30, 1958.
