022: Kraus. Kraus Karl Gottliebovich (1905-1944). Personal file of a prisoner

1943 - 1944
Annotation:

Personal file of prisoner No. 3898 in the name of Kraus Karl Gottliebovich, born in 1905, German by nationality, native of the village of Orlovskoye, Markshtatsky District, Volga German ASSR.

The case was opened on June 15, 1943 in connection with his arrest by the Tugansky RO NKVD of the Novosibirsk Region for escaping from a special settlement in the Kozhevnikovsky District (a crime under Article 82, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR). For the investigation, he was transferred and held in custody in Prison No. 3 of the city of Tomsk.

During his detention, in February 1944, a new, more serious political case was brought against Kraus. Based on the testimony of his cellmates, he was accused of conducting counterrevolutionary pro-fascist agitation, praising Hitler and the German army, and slandering the Soviet government and its leaders. These actions were classified under Article 58-10, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR ("Propaganda or agitation containing a call for the overthrow, subversion or weakening of Soviet power"). On this new charge, his official arrest was sanctioned inside the prison.

The documents testify to bureaucratic correspondence between various departments of the NKVD (Tugansk, Kozhevnikovsky, the prison department of the NKVD Directorate for the Novosibirsk Region) regarding the status and conduct of the prisoner’s case.

On April 3, 1944, Kraus Karl Gottliebovich died in the prison hospital. According to the medical examination report, the cause of death was "pellagra and exhaustion". The case was closed due to the death of the accused.

DEPUTY CHIEF OF THE NKVD DEPARTMENT OF THE NSO STATE SECURITY MAJOR /KORNILEV/

I AUTHORIZE ARREST:

PROSECUTOR OF NOVOSIBIRSK REGION STATE COUNSELLOR OF JUSTICE III CLASS [signature]

DECREE / For arrest /

City. Tomsk Novosibirsk region "__" February 1944

I, Deputy Head of Prison No. 3 of the NKVD of the Novosibirsk Region, Junior Lieutenant of State Security BASHLYKOV, having reviewed the material on criminal activity:

KRAUSS Karl Gottliebovich, born in 1905, native of the village of Orlovskoye, Markshtatsky District, Volga German ASSR, German by nationality, citizen of the USSR, no permanent residence, illiterate, from the middle peasants, without a permanent place of residence or work, was exiled to the Kozhevnikovsky District of the Novosibirsk Region, from where he fled. For which he was arrested on 23.V.43 by the Tugansky ROM NKVD and charged under Art. 82, Part II of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR, and is currently being held in Prison No. 3 in Tomsk.

FOUND:

That KRAUSS, while under arrest in prison No. 3 of the NKVD NSO during November–December 1943, systematically carried out counter-revolutionary [pro-fascist] agitation among his cellmates, aimed at undermining the power of the Soviet state, for example:

In mid-November 1943, KRAUSS denigrated the Soviet government and the leaders of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks), and made various insults against the leaders of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks). Here he also praised the cannibal Hitler and his “order.”

In the last days of November 1943, KRAUSS slandered the Red Army and, on the contrary, praised the German army and its equipment, proving to his cellmates the inevitable defeat of the USSR in the modern war with Nazi Germany.

In the first days of December 1943, KRAUSS made slanderous statements about the Soviet government and the Red Army. At the same time, he praised the German army and the bandit Hitler.

In the last days of December 1943, KRAUSS expressed similar counter-intelligence fabrications, and simultaneously slandered the Soviet press.

The pro-fascist activities of KRAUSS are confirmed by the testimony of witnesses VYKHREST P.E., FEDOSEYEV A.K., RYABKOV T.P. and MAKARENKO A.I.

Based on the above

RESOLVED:

KRAUSS Karl Gottliebovich is to be arrested and searched.
