Of the Germans of the Volga German ASSR deported to Siberia. He died in Tomsk prison on April 3, 1944.

A native of the village of Orlovskoye, Markshtatsky District, Volga German ASSR, a German, a citizen of the USSR, primary education, from a peasant background, no pension, married. In 1941, as a person of German nationality, he was deported to the Kozhevnikovsky District of the Narym Okrug, from where he fled. He was arrested on May 29, 1943. The case was opened on June 15, 1943 in connection with his arrest by the Tugansky RO of the NKVD of the Novosibirsk Region for escaping from a special settlement in the Kozhevnikovsky District (a crime under Article 82, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR). For the investigation, he was transferred and held in custody in Prison No. 3 of the city of Tomsk,

with a list of jurisdiction for the Kozhevnikovsky RO NKVD.

During his detention, in February 1944, a new, more serious political case was brought against Kraus. Based on the testimony of his cellmates, he was accused of conducting counterrevolutionary pro-fascist agitation, praising Hitler and the German army, and slandering the Soviet government and its leaders. These actions were classified under Article 58-10, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR ("Propaganda or agitation containing a call for the overthrow, subversion or weakening of Soviet power"). On this new charge, his official arrest was sanctioned inside the prison.

On April 3, 1944, Kraus Karl Gottliebovich died in the prison hospital. According to the medical examination report, the cause of death was "pellagra and exhaustion". The case was closed due to the death of the accused.

In the book of memory “Human Pain” regarding K. G. Kraus it is stated that on May 20, 1944 he was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment under Article 58-2 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR, and was rehabilitated on January 16, 1989.
