Bukovsky Vladimir Konstantinovich
Definition: Writer, political and public figure, neurophysiologist. One of the founders of the dissident movement in the USSR.

Genus. in 1942 in the city of Belebey, Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic; Russian; secondary education; total activist Lived in Moscow. Arrested 06/01/1963. Sentenced by the Moscow City Court on August 23, 1963 under Art. 190-1 to compulsory treatment. Released in 1965. Arrested on January 26, 1967. Sentenced by the Moscow City Court on September 1, 1967 under Art. 190-1 and 190-3 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR (“dissemination of knowingly false fabrications discrediting the Soviet state and social system”, “organization or active participation in group actions that violate public order”), for years for organizing a demonstration on Pushkin Square in defense of Yu. Galanskova, A. Dobrovolsky and V. Lashkova for 3 years of technical training. Released in 1970. Lived in Moscow. Arrested 03/29/1971. Sentenced by the Moscow City Court on January 5, 1972 under Art. 70 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 7 years of imprisonment (of which the first 2 years of imprisonment) and 5 years of exile. He served his sentence in Vladimir prison and Perm camps. In December 1976, he was deprived of Soviet citizenship and taken to Switzerland to be exchanged for the leader of the Communist Party of Chile L. Corvalan. He settled in the UK and graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in neurophysiology. He wrote a book of memoirs, “And the Wind Returns” (1978), “Letters of a Russian Traveler” (1980), dedicated to his impressions of life in the West. Died in Cambridge on October 27, 2019.
